Renaissance Center

Manntech’s facade access systems stand the test of time

The Renaissance Center is a group of seven skyscrapers located in Downtown Detroit, Michigan. The complex of buildings serve as a significant commercial, retail, and hotel space for the city. Notably, at the center of the complex is the Detroit Marriott at the Renaissance Center. This 73-story hotel stands as the state’s tallest building and the tallest all-hotel skyscraper in the Western Hemisphere.

Often described as a ‘city within a city, the center was constructed over eight years, offering 5,552,000 square feet of space upon completion. With each of the seven towers designed in the modern architectural style, glass facades are heavily utilised.

The relationship between Manntech (previously known as Mannesmann) and the Renaissance Center started more than 30 years ago when four Manntech building maintenance units were installed at the hub. As expected, the older model of Manntech’s BMU are still in operation today which is a testament to the longevity of Manntech’s superior quality products and servicing abilities.

These access systems have stood the test of time, surpassing the life span of several building features and design elements, with a large-scale renovation of the center carried out in 2004 and again a rebrand of the center in 2015.

Manntech has since delivered a further 12 facade access systems to ensure the efficient and safe maintenance of the entire center. These systems have helped achieve coverage of integral design features.

The extensive lifespan of Manntech’s products can be attributed to the brand’s superior European engineering, manufacturing, and servicing capabilities. Since 1958, Manntech has been designing building maintenance systems in close cooperation with architects, constructors and building owners.

All parts are manufactured onsite at European production facilities by highly skilled employees. Once installed, experienced service technicians carry out regular maintenance to ensure long-lasting optimal performance.

Manntech’s reputation which is built on the foundation of the success and performance of the equipment at The Renaissance Center, resulted in a facade access system being ordered for the One Detroit Center which has operated an early Manntech building maintenance unit since the 1990s.
